20TH CENTURY DESIGN

For task 2, we learn about Dadaism concept, where we know it is a art movement that happen after the World War 1, where artists decided to protest the government and rejected the reason and logic. Dadaism also a change in artists where they start to change their artwork from paint and brush media to other media such as collage, photo montage, assemblage and ready made thing.

For me, Dadaism is controversy way of the young artist in that time to directly or abstractly hating government because of the war they created.

The famous artist of Dadaism that I like is Marcel Duchamp. His artwork The Fountains that using urinal place or toilet resemble the project that Aisyah and I doing for Dadaism project. We using 6 things that we collect and put in the box and exchange it around the group, so my group boxes with Jeffry group, where Aisyah and me get, bracelet, seashell, chains, 50 cents coin, oil container that been cut half, bulb, wire, batteries, plastic cup, polystyrene cup, tissue roll, masking tape, and soap.

So using this as references, we creating a sketches of idea on issue that we want to give awareness that happen know. Aisyah and I try to use this thing in the boxes to create topic of the awareness of transgender.  This idea of creating this topic is because of the another side of Marcel Duchamp, that is known as Rrose Selavy.

REFLECTION

In learning Dadaism, I learn about the way artist try to change the way of making art and using art as a provocation or something that create scandalous by the way people change because of war that happen and using something new that did not use brush and painting. Mostly, I think Dadaism is something controversy by making direct and abstract approach.

20TH CENTURY DESIGN

Sub: 20th Century Design
Task: Post Modernism

In this art movement, we learn about an art that doesn't give meaning just making something that look differently from reality. PM also is an art that influental all creative industries including architecture.

Modernism is a way  looking out for world, or an idea that developing a new way understanding or developing an Utopia or ideal world by creating something that definitely 360 degree differently from reality.

Artist made it because it is fun and 'POP' culture by creating something that already popular. For an example like a sculpture of Micheal Jackson by Jeff Koons or picture of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol.

Pic 1: Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol retrieve from http;//artistme.files.wordpress.com/2007/09/marilyn.jpg.

Pic 2: Micheal Jackson and Bubbles by Jeff Koons retrieve from www.creativeboysclub.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/koons-2.jpg

The usage of PM is as Language of Advertisement such in television, newspaper, politician and much more. PM is also simulation about reality for an example Matrix film that the world they live is created by computer program and the reality is the way round.

Pic 3: Matrix Film Poster retrieve from  http://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/stltoday.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/2/80/280bade4-c0b3-5b7e-a2f5-919b80c4e899/515e1cdc57f19.preview-699.jpg

In PM we understand the world with images but the reality of the images is what we are feeling right now. PM is a work of pastiches. Pastiches is a work of visual art, literature or music that imitates the style or character of the work of one more other artist.

PM also an art that involves reality and simulacrum that you see doesn't mean it exist or the thing that you look it is not the same of the reality.

REFLECTION

In learning PM, I conclude that this art movement is something that weird and it sometimes doesn't bring any meaning.

DESIGN STUDIO_CONCEPTUALIZATION

Subj: Task 3: Design process

In this task, we work continuously from this task to another task to created last thing from the object that we choose. So I work with hair roller to create form, so from a sets of hair roller, I connected each of the hair rollers to make form. It sort of like Lego but I need to cut some to make it more stable and created it again.

Then, after creating the form, we make it as a functional thing. First, I want to create pencil holder by connecting the hair roller with chopstick and tied it with string. Then, when I at home, when I look for the space of drying clothes, I try to create the a clothes stopper by make a hole in each segments and connected it with string but I face the problem in the space between the clothes that help it to dry.

Then I change the idea, where I put 1 cloth in one hair roller. So the way I want to is to make the clothes stopper to be good in spaces.

METHOD OF INVESTIGATION

MID POINT REVIEW

From this module, I learn about the important of doing research. There are many type of research methodologies that we can use in doing research about artwork that we thing that show the study well. When, I doing about research on topic that we like in graphic design, I choose about fashion topic, then I found books about fashion such as WORLD MOST INFLUENTAL FASHION DESIGNER by Noel Palomo-Lovinski, FASHION-A VERY SHORT INTRODUCTION by Rebecca Arnold and OLD CLOTHES,NEW LOOK: SECOND-HAND FASHION by Alexandra Palmer and Hazel Clark. They talk about fashion in variety way but mostly fashion is about what fashion is and the history of fashion and concept that designer from generation to generation.

In this module, I also learn about the important of an evidence that I should have when doing research about something that I want. If we need to take word or talk the author quotes, we need to learn a good way to make citation about the quotes that we want. We also learn how we use the quotes in our references in our artwork.

When we doing a group work, we usually learning from each other where we give comment to each other. This we do when doing presentation in about reasarch methodologies.

20TH CENTURY DESIGN

CONCEPTUALISM
Conceptualism is an idea. (Generally it taken to be an idea or reason how the work to be/ trigger the mind for the artwork. Concept may be relay to something that may or not may related to the thing in past to developed the future. Concept and object bring a different way of understanding. Concept can be something that functional or something that can be aesthetics and object is mostly about the function and the way to use.
For the report, I had been doing this project in Design Studio-Conceptualization of form. First, I use the hair roller as Lego. First concept is playing around the hair roller to create form from connecting the hair roller around. Then, we were asked to create from not functional form to functional form, so I created a clothes stopper. This idea trigger because of the limited space of drying clothes in my house and also how to stop the clothes bunch with others clothes. So I use the hair roller by connecting them with string.
If I decided to develop this prototype, 2 concepts that I should think of is about the ecology and design problem space.
For ecology, I need to change the materials that I use because plastic need longer time to dispose and I should think of something that could help with the problem that happen. First, we can use recycle hair roller that already break or we can use another type of material. For me, I would like to use rattan or bamboo because of my culture. For the string, I could choose a biodegradable material or dye the string with the natural pigment that can be found in plants or flowers. This is because, the string that I use is using chemical to bleach to make it white or I can use rattan rope to connect each bamboo roller to create the clothes stopper.

About the design problem, is what measurement that I should have. “Should I make it too long or comfortable with the user or should I use hook to connect it to the wall or I should nail it permanently there?” Using this question, I need to make research about furniture design and famous artist that has a good design in this field of study or look about rattan furniture or artist that creating something from nature, for an example there are designer that created a bicycle from bamboo.

20TH CENTURY DESIGN

In 20th Century Design, the first group project is about the applying and the usage of Cubism. Cubism is an art movement that created in 20th century. This movement is happen of the idea of paint everything in any perspectives. It either can be explore in multiple perspectives view or single point view.

Picture 1:
This is a example of Cubism Artwork, Nude Descending Staircase by Marcel Duchamp.

Then we are given task to create a short film that we learn from a movie, TIMECODE by Mike Figgis where he experiment the cubism in his film. So we decided to discuss about objects that we can see in many perspectives and single perspectives. In the end we decided to use laptop as our main point. From this point, our group make a brain storming of the different way of laptop usage whether in physical or conceptual/meaning.

Picture 2:
Our Brain storming of laptop
After the brain storming, we divided the usage of laptop in public and private, for the example is like the brand and Instagram can be look as a public view where everyone can look and E-mail and the usage it in office, school, college/university can be look as private. From this brain storming, we decided to use Instagram as our project, where we put picture that we put without editing where we can conclude from the word Insta/Instant that bring meaning of very short time and Instragram is the portmanteau of instant camera and telegram.

Picture 3:
The Topic of Instagram that we decided.

Then, we split the topic that we decided to do in the Instagram. We decided 6 topics of Travel, Sport, Transport, Food and Illness around us especially in Mantin. Then we make a lucky draw, to decided who take pictures about the topic. Mine is about transport in Mantin, because of my phone cannot support to do the video, so I take pictures only and post it in Instagram.
