Drawing Process (Part 2)

On this second visit to SUHU Art Space. We continued on the talk about drawing process and the tutorial of drawing realism. He show us about the types of brushes you use and you need to see the types of brushes that suitable for the painting. Other than brush, he said we could use other thing while painting the artwork as he said it is a role of painting. The painting will give more feeling for the different effect that we use.

He also show us why he mix color in wooden or why he use as pallet. It is because the wood pallet will not mixing with other color, not like the other pallet such as plastic pallet would interrupted the other color mixing. The wood is absorbent and when it dry we could use another color on it.

Painting process

Last week, we visited SUHU Art Spaces, there we were given a brief talk about what we should do before start a drawing. There our module leader told us what should do.

First, we need to images on what we want to do and to get idea from. He also told that the painter on other time conduct a research on what they want to draw. But, nowadays we just need to take picture from phone our digital camera and just edit it in some software and we will get the picture that we want.

Then, when we want to start the painting, we need to know what size of the frame we need. To make a frame that good we need a accurate measurement and angle to do it. Mostly the angle that painter use is 90 degree and the length is according to what we want.

Next, is the canvas. In painting you should have the right type of canvas to the types of your paint. it is because, each types of paint has it different specific coating or absorbent. They 3 types of canvas, oil canvas is for oil painting, absorbent canvas is for tempera and lastly, the universal canvas is good for oil painting and acrylic painting.

After the brief talk, our module lead us to the another side of the art space where, 2 students of UITM is taking part in Nando's Chicken competition in making a new signboard for Nando's. One of the student mix media to created his artworks, where he use a traditional method to created his artwork for the chicken and then created a full cartons of egg model by using 3D print machine. When we ask him why, he told that the chicken is the main part of Nando's food and the egg is important because the chicken will always layingthat egg for Nando's.

Task 2: Curatorial Issue

Artwork, Curator and Space

* A discussion about curatorial issue and a visit to art gallery.

On 2 April 2015, we visit Publika in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur to talk to the curator at the art gallery in Publika. We enter one of the art gallery there known as Galeri Chandan and has a small talk about with the gallery curator. She explain to us about what is curator and what we should do when we going to start the exhibitions.

For example, as a curator we can look at the spaces, lightning, the theme of the exhibition and also the size of the artworks. The curator in art gallery and in museum is different from each other because of the setting in the museum and the gallery, where museum is full with artifacts and fragile their will permanently stay there, whereas the art gallery is according to the setting and the time of the theme of the exhibition conducted.

To be a curator, it doesn't have to has certificate, it usually focus your interest and you need to always have idea in setting the spaces and where you want to show the artwork to the audiences.

When we doing the visit, I see some of the curator sometimes doesn't show the artworks properly and the artwork look hidden from the audience. For example, I told my friends about the artwork that attract me and they say they doesn't see the artwork.
