Task 2: Curatorial Issue

Artwork, Curator and Space

* A discussion about curatorial issue and a visit to art gallery.

On 2 April 2015, we visit Publika in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur to talk to the curator at the art gallery in Publika. We enter one of the art gallery there known as Galeri Chandan and has a small talk about with the gallery curator. She explain to us about what is curator and what we should do when we going to start the exhibitions.

For example, as a curator we can look at the spaces, lightning, the theme of the exhibition and also the size of the artworks. The curator in art gallery and in museum is different from each other because of the setting in the museum and the gallery, where museum is full with artifacts and fragile their will permanently stay there, whereas the art gallery is according to the setting and the time of the theme of the exhibition conducted.

To be a curator, it doesn't have to has certificate, it usually focus your interest and you need to always have idea in setting the spaces and where you want to show the artwork to the audiences.

When we doing the visit, I see some of the curator sometimes doesn't show the artworks properly and the artwork look hidden from the audience. For example, I told my friends about the artwork that attract me and they say they doesn't see the artwork.

The artwork that we see in Chandan Art Gallery:

Contemporary Design Issues

Blog post about a website given by module leader.
http://idnworld.com
In this website, we find many designer/artist that created new design. We looking at this website to learn about argument and how we going to talk about their design and why they created and what they inspiration to created the design and what they want to show to the audience.

So, I'm choose a designer known as Thomas Henry Burden. He is a designer that use typography as his main design and also in his artworks. The way he use the colorful and different types of font and he also use a colorful typo in his world as he say that he want to pop years theme that widely used in 80's where the bright color is a popular on that time. He also using old toys design in his artworks to recreate back the pop culture in his artworks.

Thomas Henry Burden:

One of his artworks:

I think his artwork is interesting because sometimes designer like sleek and clean design in their artworks and nowadays we rarely look designer using bright colors such yellow, orange, and red in one place. He also recreate back the model because he doesn't want to look real. He like to stylized his own model so that are lot quicker to create or model and have more personality.

Another artworks by Thomas Henry Burden:

REFLECTION
Designer or artist should express their artwork with their own style so that the audience can feel the vibe or understanding the artwork that they want to show to the audience. We also can use any method to presented our artwork and not only focusing in drawing to express our artworks.

1. understand the logical connections between ideas
2. identify, construct and evaluate arguments
3. detect inconsistencies and common mistakes in reasoning
4. solve problem systematically
5. reflect on the justification on one's own belief  and values

Critical thinking is quiet compatible with thinking " out of the box", challenging and pursuing your own thinking in creating something.

3D MODELLING FOR OBJECT AND ENVIRONMENT

BUILDING AN ENVIRONMENT (PROCESS)

In this week, we need to decide about the image we want to create as the building that we want and create in MAYA software to create the 3D model building. This is the image that I build in the software. We creating the the image by using the top view to create the building using the sketches that I choose. I using a basic shape to create my building for example triangle and rectangle.

This the process I do create the 3D building model.

First, I sketch the top view of my building.

Then I import the drawing that I trace in illustrator into the MAYA software.

After that I create a hole in the inside and created 4 set of triangles to create roof

Then I use the first design to be the cover for the roof

Then I start to enter the texture and color into the building model and adjusted until into my satisfactions where I let the building and the triangles set a bit transparent and around the building I put the grass, small bushes and flower bed.
