GROUP DESIGN PROJECT

EXHIBITION DAY

The exhibition day is 20th May 2016 at Vertical Studio B, the date should be on 18th May 2016 and the venue is at AAVA Gallery near the Library but because of some technical problem and this is change into Studio B.

In here, the set up is not look as we plan because of the last minute change but we try to create the place as we decided to do as what plan first. We plan our exhibition with minimum cost and ready to present our artwork.

Using the black flexible PVC fence to hang our artwork, all five of us is there but Samira is not because on the day we decide to buy the material, we ask her and said she doesn't want to that why she didn't hang it together on the fence.

We hang the plastic fence on the the ceiling using fishing line and stapler gun it on the wood platform to stabilize it. Then we glue the flexible wire on our artwork using hot glue gun then we bend the wire so that we hang the ortwork on the fence.

Here is the picture on the set up day.

MANAGING DESIGN

RESEARCH

The name henna also refers to the dye prepared from the plant and the art of temporary body art (staining) based on those dyes (see also mendhi). Henna has been used since antiquity to dye skin, hair and fingernails, as well as fabrics including silk, wood and leather. The henna ink is produced by its leaves. Some people use the crush henna leaves and wraps it around their finger and waiting for the henna leaves to left the stain. Some peoples dried the henna leaves and process it so it become powdery and sometimes they mix it with lemon juice or tea, to get different color, usually they do this to dye hair. Henna also come in small pen kit that contain already processed henna ink and can be use instantly.
From this research, I also found about instant henna that contain harmful toxic that can left rashes and blisters.

MANAGING DESIGN

PROGRESS

After the tattoo research, I start to design my character for the final project. This is the references that I choose while I create the characters.

Image 1: References from Aladdin character. Image taken from https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/44/a5/e2/44a5e2c02ffa44e3d6e8320d12192ad9.jpg

Then, I draw my characters, but the compositon is not right and the size also.

Image 2: My first design for the characters. Image taken from Alexis's phone.

After finding the mistake, I amends the characters design and come out with final outcomes.

Image 3: Final character design with their costume and characteristic. Image taken from Alexis's phone.

The character is symbolizes Malaysian people before the independence day and also the invaders of Malaysia that time. So I learn about clothes or costumes that they use on that time. I also learn about Malaysia timeline. After doing the characters, I proceeds to the Malaysia timeline, where I focus on the part that has wars or chaos. There I kinda use like a spectrum waves to show the time where the chaos happen and line where there are peace happen.

Image 4: The timeline and the character become the storyboard. Image taken from Alexis's phone.

After creating the timeline, I put the the characters to create a story board and focus the story on the spectrum of the timeline. I only use mute characters and doesn't has any word as their dialogue because I was created this story into kind of graphic tattoo which is still in progress.

REFLECTION

From this, I understand how hard the people of Malaysia on that time to get their independence from the research that I look into. I also think that being Malaysian we need to be grateful and thankful with what we get and fight back to get what we should have.

DESIGN SYSTEM AND SERVICES

WIRE FRAME AND INTER FACE OF IBANJI

Wire frame is created to understand how a system and services work from first step until final step. Here is my wire frame for my IBANJI and show the chart of how this system from A to Z.

Image 1: IBANJI Wire frame

Interfaces is how the system work from one step into another step. So this is how the IBANJI system work. First the user can downloaded the applications from playstore for android or Apple appstore for iPhone. Then after download and installing, the user can just forward into the setting and click on (Language and Input) and go to keyboard setting and choose on IBANJI keyboard. After that, user go into messaging and start using the IBANJI to typing message.

DESIGN SYSTEM AND SERVICES

 PROGRESS

After understanding about the system of emoticon, then I proceed to doing the design of the emoticon of Ibanji. I look up into chinese character as references to design this emoji.

My References:

References 1: Chinese Alphabet: Images taken at https://www.dramafever.com/st/news/images/Screen_Shot_2014-02-12_at_3.16.41_PM.png

References 2: Chinese Alphabet: Images taken at http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71RG8BOH27L.jpg

From this using the Iban language I develop the emoji characters using this refences. To create the emoji characters, it kind of difficults, because I need to simplified the shape and design a characters so the users understand what the characters displays for.

Progress for creating characters:

Progress 1: Development of IBANJI characters: Images taken from Alexis's camera phone.

Progress 2: Development of IBANJI characters: Images taken from Alexis's camera phone.

Then I proceed toward to design it digital, after done of develop the characters.

Progress 3: Final Outcomes of the Ibanji characters.

When doing this, I learn how to interpret symbol or sign into a language and how difficult it is if the symbol is hard to understand and the meaning that are shown are not clear or confusing and my focus also is to help elder to communicate with youngster in world of technology.

MEDIA DESIGN NEW TECHNOLOGIES

CONCEPT BOARD

For concept board, I use MAGGI taglines " Happiness is Homemade" as my main point. The concept is about food can bring joy to the family or eating at home or home cooking can bring happiness to the family.

As for Masak Lemak Cili Api is traditional food in Malaysia and it famously known in Negeri Sembilan. The colour theme is yellow because it main color of Maggi is yellow and Masak Lemak Cili Api is yellowish because of the mixture of coconut milk and tumeric powder as the main ingredient in Masak Lemak Cili Api.

So the concept board would be consists of showing family eating together, masak lemak cili api as the new ingredients and maggi products.

MANAGING DESIGN

HISTORY OF TATTOO

Its apparent that tattooing was widely practised in many centuries in the ancient world and associated with a high level of artistic endeavour. The imagery of ancient tattooing is very similar to that modern tattooing. Throughout history tattooing like other forms of body decoration has been related to sensual, erotic and emotional of aspects of the psyche. In many cultures tattoos are traditionally associated with magic, totems and desired of the tattooed person to become identified with the spirit of animal.

BORNEO TATTOO

Borneo is one of the few places in the world where traditional tattooing is still practised today. Archaeological evidence has shown that ancestor of some contemporary native tribes have lived in Borneo for 50,000 years. The term "Dayak" is applied to a variety of native tribes including the Ibans, Kayans, and Kenyahs.

Head hunting and tattooing were intricately connected in the magic, ritual and social life of many tribes. The hand tattoos was a symbol of status in life and also served important function after death. Many of the traditional tattoo designs resembles decorative motifs founds in the art of Bali and Java and the tattooing instruments and techniques.
